Hi all,
Went to Lidls last night for some milk and came out with a raspberry cane and some strawberry plants....oops! Have planted the raspberry in the garden but not sure how I should look ofter it-there is one shoot on the stem and another on the root ball (thats obviously now underground)-do they multiply by themselves and do I need to cut them back or anything?

Bought a strawberry planter and have planted up the strawberries-do the plants die after one year or will they keep coming back? do i leave them in the planter?

sorry for all the questions-i really should do more research before buying plants!

Is it a summer or autumn raspberry? Now isn't the time to be doing any pruning of it so just let it do its thing - hopefully more shoots will come up from the roots as these will be the canes that will get you fruit next year.

If you look after the strawbs they should not only last for a few years but the runners will give you new plants if they manage to get something to root into. I kept mine in a tub through the winter and they were fine having given them a bit of protection from the cold in the garage.

Yes I went to Lidls.., strawberries looked nice flowering etc but as I was on my bike I couldn't get them home. At my store the canes were just canes unfortunately.., no leaves nothing. I did get a blackberry cane and we'll see what happpens, for £1.49, I won't complain. Strawberries should keep going for years. I bought some last year, left them outside in the container over the winter and they're looking even better this year.

The raspberries in my Lidl were Fallgold, if yours is then it is Autumn fruiting, and yellow

But as already stated, just leave it alone this year

Four years ago a friend gave me six strawberry plants. I potted them in 4 inch pots meaning to pot them up eventually. They've been round the side of the house totally neglected with the odd splash of water when I remember.

This year (when thanks to this forum, I regained my interest in gardening) I potted them in a growbag and pot, they have already tripled in size, are flowering and some new fruit is developing - they've also put out runners.

I have no idea what variety they are but as plants they seem pretty tough:o
