Last week random bloke called at our house. DH answered the door and random said are you Mr x? DH said yes. Is your tel no x?, yes then handed him a ticket to win a car.
I went slightly off on one as I said to DH how did they know your name and number as home no ex d and has been since 1985!
Last night at 8pm! (which woke my DD) had a call from this no
01257 453300 and she said the ticket had been entered into the draw. I asked how had they got our name and tel no and she said DH gave it to them (as if), I said no, the chap (random) knew these details and told us! She said they didn't know where the details where gained from - yeah right!
She then said we could have a 'free' carpet cleaning session. I said we have no carpets. She said, well what about rugs etc. Again I declined.
She said well thanks for your time and rung off!!
Another number they use is 01257450550.
If you live in the Lancs area be warned!!
Brassed off as I never give the home tel no as its Ex d. I've called Virgin today and had caller ID put on as if its withheld or these clowns I'll not be answering!

mmm free carpet clean, that stinks of the great yank con artist kirby vacuum cleaners, many years ago I was part of a group of engineers who did an official which test on this machine and we found it was no better than any other vacuum cleaner on the market and in fact worse than a good percentage, my involvement was in the efficiency ratio of the motor in regards suction, which quite frankly was pathetic, if you ever get offered one of these don't bother get a dyson or similar. One of the ploys the use is to clean a small section of your carpet and bed and put a black velvet cloth instead of the bag, they then show you the cloth that is full of fine particles they say your cleaner is missing, in fact this is natural dust and particle and you would get a larger amount using a conventional cleaner. This company often use small localised company names such as this to disguise the real parent company, so beware. warning over.Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.0

I live in Greater Manchester, South. I have had exactly the same experience. A postcard raffle ticket for a black nissan micra was pushed through my letter box, a few days later a man called offering me another ticket. I declined this as I already had one. I did not give any details away however last Friday I received a phone call from Zoe of THL telling me I had won a carpet clean or suite clean. I was to chose any, no cost involved. She asked if she could come the following day. I declined as it was weekend - house full of people. She suggested Monday between 10 and 10.30, but she would ring first to check. I asked again if there was any financial implications she said, "no, it was a way of advertising their services." Later I did some checking on the web, alarm bells rang. I rang Trading Standards for information and advice, they could not comment on an individual company! Today I was out when they phoned (not called in person) I traced the call using the internet site "Who's calling you" and discover some adverse comments about the company. A few minutes later Zoe rang back, she gave me her name and I asked her for the number she was calling from. I then asked how she had got my number, "From Mr Ellis at your house" That was impossible. My number is also registered with TPS. I kept insisting that this could not be so, she said "on this form here it says that he was a nice man!" What a line! In the end I said that I would be reporting the company to Trading Standards, the phone call was quickly terminated. The phone numbers they use are
01257450440
01258453300
01257454550
Avoid this company at all costs. If approached warn your neighbours, especially those that have no access to the internet!0 -
Hi,
I had a persuasive salesman on 15th Sept and bought the Kirby Sentria system for £1073 which they debited the next day. I cancelled on 20th Sept but still don't have my refund - AND THEY'VE MOVED OUT!!!
 Beware G A Pridham T/as Total Homecare, previous address Unit A/B Grove Mill, The Green, Eccleston, Chorley Lancashire PR7 5PH

Thank goodness I read this forum when the postcard was popped through my door yesterday. I got the phone call this morning from a charming young woman who said "congratulations your card has gone orward to the main draw but we also have daily draws and you have won todays which is free carpet cleaning". I replied No thanks and she asked me why, I explained to her that I wasnt interested in Kirkby hoover and she put the phone down on me. I guess my name is out of the Xmas draw now lol.
So thank you for the warning guys.0 -
This lot are still at it as recently as yesterday.
They tried to sell a vacuum cleaner to my elderly aunt (80 with Alzheimers's ) living near Marple.
Her carer happened to spot this "salesman" (as there had been several unexplained callers - them doing their demonstrations etc, my aunt could remember why they were there etc) called the police who promptly attended, as she is on their "vulnerable adult" register.
The salesman was getting ready to take her to the bank to get money out(£1600 !!) as her card (floor limited by me) was being declined.
Unbelievable. I've been promised that they will repay her £100 deposit.
Trading standards in Stockport have merely offered tea and sympathy as Total Homecare are trading from Salford (out of their area even though this is going on in their area!!)
Disgusting and quite chilling the lengths they are prepared to go to.0 -
Wow. Can't believe this is still going on. I clearly remember when I was little (now nearly 40) my parents winning a 'prize draw' with Kirby. The chap stayed for four hours trying to flog them a cleaner and refusing to clean the carpets as promised and refusing to leave. Us kids had long since gone to bed by the time my dad apparently manhandled him out of the house.0

I seen a job advertised on the direct gov website very vague but the hours was 10-2 mon-fri customer service role. I jumped at it i have 2 young children in school so these hours was perfect for me and as i had experience in customer service i had to apply. I phoned the number as instructed and the nice lady took my name and number and asked me if i was available for an interview the next day. YES!!! how could it be that easy i thought to myself but i didnt question it too much.
The next day i went to the interview all suited and booted and what i found was a make shift office and some uphimself guy . He gave me my "interview" he couldnt careless about me he was bragging about his company and i felt like he was selling me something i went along with it as i was so desperate for a job, but alarm bells was ringing.
Two days later i was invited in for a look around, a chance to see what i would be doing and what i found shocked me so much.
2 young women was sat at a table with piles of "raffle tickets" in front of them and they was working their way through these raffles phoning people offering them a "free carpet shampoo" as they had "WON" it......... let me tell you what i learnt in that 2 hours i was there. The sales men target people who a) live in a nice area b) are over the age of 50 and give them a raffle ticket promising to put them in to a draw for £1000 cash. The salesmen then bring them into the office and then my job would be to ring through every single one of them aslong as they was aged between 50 and 80!!! if you meet these age requirements then you "win" a free carpet shampoo.
There is no £1000 cash prize.
The whole thing is a scam, they say they use this age range as they are more financially stable......hahaha this is a lie they are targeting the older generation and i found this disgusting!!
he even laughed about previously getting done of trading standards in the past.
Needless to say i never returned. The place needs shutting down.0 -
