I use a desktop to work from home - all calls are made through Skype and all other work carried out on word and email - but want to get out and about. Sick of sitting in the house on my own and also want to explore the possibility of taking my work abroad.
Can anyone recommend a product aside from the obvious, but expensive, wireless laptop solution?
I've currently looked at PDAs and have also considered a blackberry. Are there any other products around?
Ideally I see myself sitting in a cafe during the day, working away on something with an attachable foldable keyboard on which I can make Skype calls, beaver away in word and fire off emails with impunity.
Does anyone know what I need? Will I need (can you get) small palm devices which have usb ports for keyboards and skype headsets?
Thank you techies.

I use a Dell Axim x50v coupled with a bluetooth keyboard. By the time you buy them, if you buy new, the price could well be approaching that of a low end laptop. I got mine off ebay and at the moment people are upgrading to the x51v so the previous model can be found quite cheaply. Here is an example of the x50v on ebay with GPS thrown in. Here is an example of a bluetooth keyboard for a PDA, you might be able to get a cheaper one as I only did a quick search.
You can use Skype on PDAs and, of course, synch up with appointments etc from your PC.
The set up works for me when I'm on my (extensive) travels.
BTW, there is an excellent site for the Axim range which will answer all your questions about setting up etc.0
