We always use an indirect company to make our phonecalls.
Say the voice prompt says 1/2p per minute but then the number you are calling is a international premium rate number will you know what the new charge is at the time you are making the call.
I mean will it automatically change once you entered the number.

What company are you using and what number are you calling? The rate you hear should be correct unless you are calling from a mobile.0

AFAIAA, if the number you are calling is, say, a Premium Rate number in Spain, the call will not connect if you use one of the 0844 200 xxxx (½p per minute) dial-through providers.
If you start by dialling an 0844 200 xxxx number, the call charge cannot change from ½p per minute (assuming you are calling from a BT landline, of course).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
If you are dialing a premium rate number you will be charges the rate that is advertised as the cost of that number... Check with the company if you are unsure about the rates of any destination you are calling...0

If you are calling via a dial-through provider who generally use 084x/087x numbers then you may depending on who you make the initial call from, pay more than the rate that the dial-through provider has quoted for your call.
Hence reason why Heinz mentioned that if you are dialling via 0844 200 xxxx then you will only pay 0.5ppm from a BT landline. Other landline providers can (and in some cases do) set their own rates for calls.
Of course, there are exceptions to this and is too much to go into without more details of what type of numbers you call and via what telephone provider!0 -
I always override BT for my calls abroad, now using the 0844 200 xxxx. Whenever I have tried a phone that turns out to be premium rate (usually companies) the recording tells me the price. It has not happened for some time though, so I do not remember which company I was using at the time. If, for instance, I dial a phone which is a mobile, by mistake, they tell me to call another override number. What you could do is make a call to a Nº you know to be premium and see if there is a message. You can always cut off before they answer, in any case. Hope this helps!0
