All you MSE's probably know this already and will laugh at me for wasting money for 6 years.

Just had my next renewal through post for AA break down cover £161. Thought that was a bit high so checked website and was quoted £100

One 5 minute phone call, and straight away no problem what so ever…
”yes madam we have reduced it to £100 for you and no you will not loose the extra benefits/free extra call outs”

What? How are they getting away with that! I was shocked… all these years I just let it renew itself, and they have been charging me more and mor each year..… dam it! What a waste! More fool me for not checking…

Happy now though just saved £60 J

Me Autoaid too (last renewal a few days ago was £35), after getting tip from MSE 5 years ago. Big savings over the years (self + wife, any car covered), their central call-out number always works, a couple of claims promptly settled.

Ok... now I feel cheated! I have always had a good service from AA so I guess thats why I stuck with them, and my car is getting older too

I may need to do some research before they take my money at the end of June.
    Thank you

I never accept the renewal quote I get through the post for any of my insurances or breakdown cover - it only takes a couple of phone calls or an hour or so googling to get comparison prices and cover.
I think the last time I was with the AA was about 20 years ago, cancelled the cover because their prices were getting too steep even back then.

Want to save another £60? Go with AutoAid.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

To have 2 cars covered for 2 drivers, with practically the full options package for £35 is amazing, what puts most people off though is the need to settle your recovery bill instantly via card and claim back - just like household insurance.

All I can say to AA/RAC members is TRY it for 1 or 2 years then see if you like this way of being insured. If its any reassurance, you use the local mechanic that is sent to you by Autoaid's call centre, so you will not be ripped off. These local guys are often self-employed and motivated.

Is there a good online comparison between the established players and the new entrants ? Price is not the first thing which comes to mind when you are stuck on the motorway in winter and all the cheap company's contacts are asleep or busy and as they have none of their own people, no-one is coming to your aid !

Been with Autoaid for at least 5 years and it was old news then... so this is not a new entrant.

To compare the main breakdown/recovery players, go to local Library and ask for the annual index copies of Which? for the last 2 years. Search the index for Breakdown or Recovery to find out which month's publication covered this topic then obtain that copy - most UK libraries have 2-3 years of copies of "Which?".

(also "Which?" is a good way to check which is the best brand of car tyres).

Some companies familiar with the Autoaid process do the claim so you don't have to pay anything.
