Weed control fabric question

Hello all

I'm a novice gardener and finding out how much I love gardening ....... but not weeding!!

I laid a single layer of Wilkinsons Weed Control fabric last night, but after watering the newly planted shrubs - notice that the water does not seem to drain through the fabric, instead collecting in puddles.

As you can imagine - i'm a bit concerned as don't relish the idea of my flower bed turning into a narrow pool.

My question is - has anyone used the Wilko brand and if so, does it eventually become porous?

Thank you

I always find that the wilko's or the cheaper brands of fabric seem to break up very quickly and doesn't last .. I now use a much heavier fabric and haven't had any problems with it ..

I've posted a slightly different question on here about a similar thing. The membrane, no matter how cheap, will allow the water to drain through eventually. You applied the water in bulk so to speak, so it'll just take a bit of time to drain through. If you put plenty of mulch on top you shouldn't notice the build up of water.

Thank you both brogusblue and delmar39 for your replies - you have put my mind at rest about this. I guess its like a new bathtowel - until it gets wet a few times there isn't much absorbancy.
    Cheers!
