Builder Advice - Repoint or Render wall?

Good morning all!
Hope someonce might be able to advise...
I have recently bought a new house (for the first time) and having had a comprehensive building survey, the following advice was given:
'The boundary wall at the rear is a retaining wall that supports the ground occupied by the rear patio garden. It is stable at present but the rear surface is in poor condition and this could lead to future instability and the need for repairs.' 'The rear elevation of the boundary walls needs re-pointing and general repair.'
Estimate for cost £1000.00
Approx size of wall: Width 7m Height - 4m
Sorry - cannot let me upload an image
'new user'
May I ask what any experienced professional make of this? Would you recommend having the bricks repaired/replaced and repointed? Or external rednering? It is in poor condition and I aim to have this fixed before the winter sets in. Both neighbours had their wall repinted/repaired a fair few years ago, so it's only mine that needs work...
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Rob

If you decide to render the wall, you will have to get building regs approval. They might make you add insulation to the outside of your house. Even if you don't, you will have to pay a fee for them to tell you that.
That might make your decision easier.0 -
