Wiring in new ceiling light - help..

I am replacing the single pendant light in the kitchen with a fitted ceiling light. The light can be switched on from 2 sockets and the old pendant fitting has many more cables than will seem to fit the new fitting.
Out of the ceiling are two cables.
In the first cable are 3 individual wires (Black, Red and Yellow/Green)
In the second cable are 4 individual wires ( Blue, Red, Yellow/Green and solid yellow with a bit of red sheathing).
The new fitting only has 3 possibilities - live, earth and neutral.
Where do the seven individual wires go in the new fitting????
Thanks

You need a switchable light.
You haven't bought one.Not Again0 -

I suspect that those are old wiring colours and what you've got are;
Cable 1: Standard 2 core and earth
Cable 2: Standard 3 core and earth
In both cables, Black is Neutral
In both cables, Red is Live
In both cables, yellow/green is Earth
In cable 2, the solid yellow one is probably unswitched live (that's what it always is in my install).
My advice would be to either a) if you're feeling adventurous, cap off cable 2 and wire the light with cable 1 - red live, black neutral, yellow/green earth.
or b) Get a sparky in or someone with some test equipment to try to work out what each cable does.0 -
In the exsiting pendant, there will be two brass poles coming down to contact the light bulb, trace those back in the fitting those are the 2 connections which will need to go to the L & N of new fitting
The E of the new fitting should connect to the Yell/Gren
You should find the the other connection are in fact just junction points to connect the lighting ring cables
the red sheathing usually indicates the switched live
disclaimer : But I'm not a electrician
edit: removed wire colour info0 -

Whut?
All lights are switchable!0 -
Did you make a drawing of the where the wires went in the old fitting?
If not, then might I make a plea to all OP's at this point. If you are removing an existing fitting, always make a drawing of what wires are joined together and what wires are feeding the old light. If you are not competent to do this then you are not competent to wire up the new fitting. If you make a drawing and then get mixed up about what to do there is help available on this forum.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Don't listen to any of the advice given above about what wire goes where, none of it is right.
Get a sparks in to sort it for you, it's really no more than 5 minutes to work out what goes where and connect it all up.
You'll obviously end up paying for an hours labour whether the sparks is there for 5 minutes or 50 minutes, but at least you'll know it's done right.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
