Hairdryer Recalled, wait for replacement?

Hi,
I bought a Braun hairdryer for my wife through Amazon in June 2008.
I got an email from Amazon last week saying that Braun have recalled these hair dryers as they can catch fire even if switched off (but still plugged in).
I have phoned Braun who have sent a box out for the hairdryer for me to return and wait upto 28 days for a replacement.
My wife isn't happy with this... she can't go without a hairdryer for 28 days.
She has spoken to Braun to ask them to send a replacement before we send ours back... they said they couldn't do this because "we may not return ours" !? She has asked if she could buy a new hair dryer and for them to reimburse her.. but again they have said no.
Where do we stand?
Obviously we don't want a dangerous hair dryer, but Braun aren't budging on their procedure.
It was paid for on a credit card if that's relevant.
Can I return it to Amazon after this length of time under the Sale of Goods act?
Thanks for any help.

You have three choices
1 Your wife continues to use the Hair drier knowing it could catch fire
2 She can wait a few days for a replacement
3 Me and the boys down the Dog and Duck will approach these miscreants and get you a replacement within minutes. Meet me here at 7 tonight, outside the snug. We will also give those responsible for for wife's obvious distress a good kicking and notify the police of this. A bank holiday weekend in teh slammer will certainly make them think twice about doing the same again.0 -
