They have charged me 2 lots of £50 for going slightly over my overdraft. I know I'm in the wrong, but we are really struggling at the mo and them charging that isnt helping my situation at all.
£50 seems so excessive, is there anything I can do?
I really hope so as thats more than a weeks shopping for me and the family and I really cant afford to give it to a billion pound profit making bank
Many thanks in advance

you could call them up and ask them if they can, but i doubt it, move bank accounts, their charges caused me to get into loads of debt, so get a new account...the halifax reward current account (no i dont work for them!) gives you £5 a month if you pay in over £1000 and they do not charge you if a direct debit bounces (they charge £1 a day you are into your arranged overdraft). Or they have a different account where you get a fee free overdraft upto £300 I think!
I really dislike HSBC, they were not willing to help me in any way shape or form, and the majority of the call centre staff seem to read off a script.
If its your first charge, they may let you off....its always worth a try! Good luck0 -
If its your first time you could ring them and talk nicely.
Just for future reference, when its to do with any bank, there is no such thing as slightly overdrawn, you are either overdrawn or not.
and they will charge you whether you are 1p over or £100 over.
Good luck, hope they help you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

The £1 charge is only for authorised overdraft. The OP would have been in their unauthorised overdraft which I believe is £5 a a day with Halifax.beyond_skint wrote: »They have charged me 2 lots of £50 for going slightly over my overdraft. HSBC charge £25 per transaction in your unauthorised overdraft. So if you had just gone it, you would only have been charged £25. However, this charge means you continued to use your account even though you were in your unauthorised overdraft. You may want to consider not doing this in the future to save the charges, or get an authorised overdraft which you can dip into if need be.
Or if you are struggling, so a Statement of Affairs here: http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html
Post it in a post and people will come up with suggestions on how to cut down.
If £100 is more than a weeks shopping then you can cut down. 1 person should be less than £100 a month, 2 people should be around £150, 3 people around £200-250, 4 people around £300.0
