buying a new seat leon - advice please?

Options
I'm planning on buying a new Seat Leon Hatchback 1.6 TDI 105 SE Ecomotive 5dr with metallic paint on finance (OTR price £18,425.00). There is an offer of £2000 off the list and I have been quoted £1000 for my car (trade-in). So I thought I needed finance for £15,425, but the quote I've got states there are "charges" of £2,582.65, which means finance is needed for £18,007.65. Are these "charges" for registration etc? I thought this would be incorporated into the OTR price. Can anyone help me?

Also, regarding haggling, if I can't get the price down/my monthly payments down, what should I try and get? I've thought of asking for:
· an optional extra (rain sensing wipers, auto dimming lights etc) for free
· free servicing for 3 years
· free insurance for a year
· full tank of fuel
and see what I get? I don't need free break down cover as that's free (courtesy of tesco clubcard deals!) and the road fund licence is £0 for each year anyway on this model! What do you advise?

  • Don't bother with finance. Get a bank loan. Cheaper, and easier if you want to sell the car before the finance agreement would end.

Don't, buy a Golf instead! Just kidding :D

Dealer finance is usually expensive, as already mentioned shop around for the best rates on loans.

is it just me or does that seem like a lot of money for a seat leon?

make sure your driving is suited to the TDI if it is (i assume it will be) fitted with DPF.

it's a helluva lot of money for what is a small car. Think about what car you could get for that money if its nearly new or around a year old.

You could buy yourself a year old diesel Audi A3 for that sort of money or a BMW 1 series

Agreed, well expensive and the Skoda's is a better vehicle. Of course Hyundai i30 or Kia Ceed would be even better and cheaper still :money:

    That's because it's a Skoda.

Buy the Seat, but get a better deal.
The finance is advertised at 8.7%, you can beat that elsewhere, and there is (probably) a mileage limit of 10,000 miles per year, with an hugh excess fee.

Ask the dealer if they deal with Close Motor Finance, my old boss still gets them down to 4.5-5% flat with only a £150 total paperwork fee, not too shabby....
