Seeing same pic on two monitors...

I've connected an old 15 inch NEC Multisync 1500 LCD screen to my desktop using the analogue output on my DVI graphics card with the main 17inch TFT using the DVI connection.

The resulting picture is the same on both screens instead of it spreading the one desktop across both screens.

So I'm seeing my desktop on the 17inch and again on the 15 inch....whereas I want it to share the desktop with the 17 inch so that I can spread sheets across both screens and also across have different windows open in two different screens.

Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to get it to what I want?

Thanks in advance!

  • Assuming you're using Windows XP, right-click on the Desktop, choose Properties, Settings. Click on the picture of the monitor with 2 on it and check the 'Extend my Windiows Desktop onto this monitor' box

I have tried that but I don't see the picture of a monitor with '2' on it. I just see one monitor with no number on it, just a desktop with a window open.

    I am using windows XP...

Quite annoying...I urgently need to be able to use two screens..

Is it something to do with my graphics card? It has one DVI output for the mian 17 inch and one analogue output which I'm using for the old 15 inch.

  • Yes, you may need to check your card supports what you want do and maybe enable this. What graphics card are you using? Have you looked in the manual / help / manufacturers website or Googled on the name of the card and 'dual monitors) ?

Sorry I can't really help much more
