British Gas scam?

My mum rang British Gas about her homecare for her boiler and while she was talking to them they asked if she knew that the water supply companies didn't filter the water anymore but for £1.99 a month British Gas could arrange that for her.

Haven't been on here for a while so maybe it's already been mentioned? Anyone give me any links to similar threads? Any comments?

    £1.99 water supply pipe cover BG started doing it because some of the water boards no longer provide this service free of charge.

    I think your mum has picked this one up wrong.
