Eurohike tents... any good?

Hello. Mrs Ontheroad and I are planning some camping this summer. We're based in Glasgow and are desperately overdue on some Hebridean exploring. I've had a poke around Blacks and Millets, and I now know that Eurohike is their exclusive tent brand.

Does anyone have any experience or opinion of their tents? I'm tempted by the Eurohike Backpacker, mainly because we want something small and lightweight, and aren't bothered about huge interior space. Any suggestions for a lightweight tent suitable for occasional travellers and the Scottish climate below £50 would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi James, I've owned a 3-person Eurohike dome tent for about 15 years. It's seen plenty of wind & rain with no problems whatsoever, and I'm very happy with the durability. I'm sure it's got years left in it yet! :D

It doesn't get used as much as it used to, because I also have a quick pitch tent of similar size, which I tend to use for convenience as we're usually 'tourers' rather than staying on one site (<90 seconds pitch time compared to 25-30 minutes), but for the tent itself when pitched I prefer the Eurohike :).

    Happy camping!

Great! A useful pair of interpretations of what "2 man tent" actually means! We might go a little larger then...

Defa 3-man tent & if you are in it for more than 1-2 nights look for one with a reasonable height ...
Eurohikes are fine tents - not the best in the world but for the price you can't go wrong :)

I bought a Eurohike 2 man dome tent for backpacking round europe in 95. I still have that tent to this day and used it last year in Dorset..its still going strong and it only cost about 20 quid!
  • Thanks for all the input. Tiso have thrown a spanner in the works with a bank holiday sale of 15% off all tents, and I've just noticed they have a 9% cashback deal on Quidco. So I'm perusing some Vango alternatives. The Vango Beta 250 looks like it has the additional enclosed space for backpacks etc (and is £58 after cashback). However, considering all the savings, I'm also tempted to go a little higher up the line and splash out on the Vango Tempest 300 ... much lighter, much more compact and back to our original idea of a compact tunnel tent (£100 after cashback, and around £90 on eBay).

Im after a tent as well so i may have a look at some eurohike and vango tents
  • Just to update everyone, I plumped for a Vango Tempest 300 from Outdoor Megastore: £99.99 with free delivery and an expected 10% cashback through Quidco. The Eurohike and Vango dome tents looked fine and everything, but we won't be using a car to camp so really wanted something lightweight and small to pack. Hopefully we'll get a dry run at assembling it in the park next weekend and then christen it with a trip to the Hebrides later this summer...

Thanks for the all the input; DCFC79 - I hope you also have an enjoyable tent purchasing and tent pitching experience :D
