Anyone solve my issue with an IBM T42 laptop, or point me in the right direction??
The problem is that the screen keeps going black after a few minutes, but ONLY when using the charger - it works ok on battery power. I thought there might be an issue with the charger itself so bought a new one, but the issue is the same. The laptop itself has had a new fan fitted a few months ago.
Any help very much welcome, just hoping it is something simple.

Check the power options (control panel or sometimes a proprietary program) - you can set up things like screen turn off etc. dependant on battery or mains so it seems likely they are causing this.0

It could be something that's not been corrected properly when the fan has been put in. I'm wondering if the machine is getting hot when the battery is charging and this is causing the problem.
Take the battery out and run the machine off the mains. Do you still get the problem? In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Just tried it with the battery out and the same problem - screen goes black.

Just ran it on battery only for 30 mins or so and the screen has gone black, so the issue is there as well when running on battery power.
Possibly an overheating problem or the fan is not working properly is what I'm thinking now - sorry but I'm clueless with the control panel thingy.
