Hi all
Just a quickie to pick your brains for thoughts on the below subject..
What happens if the medical 'report' for DLA doesnt back up fully what is on the form ?
The medical report request has been sent to a doctor who is reading from notes made from another doctor about a year ago...it was a quick 5 min review appointment and we explained that things were just the same, no major disasters but chugging along etc...
It appears the notes say "***** has no major problems and is dealing with his condition well " ??? - not actually what was said....
however the doctor filling out the report has said he MUST use the notes as his guideline......i have had a long conversation with him - but he doesnt seem to get the picture...and said he has to repeat what is on the notes......
so my question is ...do the dla only listen to the medical report or will they give any consideration what so ever to what has been written on the application form (first claim)..
thanks - would love to hear your thoughts..

My understanding is that the GP has to use the information available to him at the time the request is made - which does not include calling the patient in and discussing the situation. The advice from Benefits and Work was to make an appointment prior to applying for DLA to discuss all the aspects of it and make sure the GP is aware of all the necessary information but tbh I see my GP so frequently that I very much doubt this would be beneficial so I just provide my GP with a copy of my DLA application at the same time as sending it to the DWP.Eat food. If the GP report has already been sent, and contradicts what you have said, it is likely that you will be called for an ATOS medical.Gone ... or have I?0

Good grief....wouldnt have thought it would have been so stressful to claim DLA.
Half of me thinks that i should fight for this because i do have all the difficulties described on the form....but the other half of me thinks its not worth all the hassle and stress because that will make me more ill......grrrrr - and the thought of going through medicals....double grrrrrr.
Thanks for your comment dmg24 - i am not sure what to think because the doctors notes consist of one line...no great details to help him answer all the questions on the form that was sent. I guess the doctors get these forms all the time (makes me wonder how they actually have the time to do their job as well) so i suppose i will just have to wait and see what happens. He said he will get the form back by the beginning of next week - so i suppose i will hear from the dm soon after.....just need to decide how to deal with it if (when !!) it comes back as a zilch !!!0 -
think the problem is that most of us dont discuss or bring up issues about day to day with doctors and they dont ask, so apart from obvious issues they dont really have much of a clue and dont ask you in to check, just report and send off. They have to use notes as guidlines but unless they have asked your questions they not going have the answers.
Good luck, shame we all have to jump through hoops and have months of stress each time it goes on.0
