Electric Bill

I've just had a quarterley electric bill for £182, i was previously on a pre payment meter. Is this bill expensive?

No one can tell you that without knowing a) your unit consumption for that period and b) what do you use your electrcity for, i.e. do you heat your property and get all your hot water by electricity?
Is your bill based on actual or estimated readings?

  • I haven't got a clue about unit consumption, to be honest i haven't a clue what that means! I have oil central heating, this also heats my water. Everything else is electric, Eon came and read the meter, but they came and updated it about a month before the bill came, don't know if this had anything to do with it?

It mean what it says-how many units of electricity have you used? Look at your bill, it will give an opening reading and a closing reading, the units charged are in Kwh, and subtracting one from the other will give the units used.
Your readings will be marked A, E or C, meaning respectively Actual, Estimated or Customer. If either or both are estimated, then your bill does not reflect actual usage and you need to read your meter and supply the reading to Eon, who will then revise you bill. Assuming you kept a note of the opening reading, you can then work out your actual usage over the billing period.
£60 per month is very expensive for a property with non-electric heating and hot water, which is why you need to check your actual usage against what is probably estimated consumption.
Forget about the bill, what matters is the consumption.

    Hi Kellie,

You need to check the accuracy of the bills first. macman is spot on; the bill amount is irrelevant if any of the readings are estimated.

You can check the current reading on the bill against the meter to see if it falls in line, if not contact us with the reading on the meter, if you are unsure how to read the meter call us when next to it and we can talk you through the reading.

Your bill will also tell you the name of the tariff you are on, it may be that there is a better deal available. Try using a comparison website to get the most suitable tariff for your needs.

Is this your first quarterly bill for this address? If so did you provide a reading to E.ON when you moved in?
