Payment dates tend to depend upon the term dates of the University your daughter is/will be attending. My partner and I attend different universities and recieve our loan on different dates, this has typically been the first day of each term.
Having received a letter from the LEA regarding my student loan allowance for the year it informs me that I will be notified of payment dates nearer the start of the academic year.
With regards to lump sum payments, I'm unsure if it is any different under the new student loans system (i'm still under the old system going into my fourth & final year), but the loan is divided up into three, slightly unequal amounts, and paid on the first day of term. Any grant for tuition fees is paid directly to the university.
