'Rose Bush'

We were given some planter/tubs from a lady on Freegle, and in one pot there is the remnants of a rose bush, picture below. No idea what kind, all there is is a label on the pot saying 'rose bush'. There's no hint of new growth on it anywhere.
Here's the picture... what do you reckon, is it rescue-able? And if it has a chance, should we repot it with fresh compost, stick it straight into the ground... or just stick it in the bin..? Would be lovely to rescue it if possible... very money saving of course

Hmmm I would have expected to see some green leaves on a rose bush at this time of year. But ever the optimis I would tip it out and if the roots seem healthy I would either put it in some fresh compost in a slightly bigger pot or put it in the corner of the garden just incase it springs to life.0

Thank you, I was hoping for an optimistic reply :T I'll go and have a nose at the roots and repot if they look half-decent. Would be great to revive it, I've done it once with a rose bush which I forgot about last year. It spent the whole winter in a pot outside (although it still didn't look as 'dead' as this one does) but with some TLC it's now bright, vibrant and absolutely bursting with green leaves.
As a complete novice it's still nice to get other's opinions though - how good it would be to post pics later in the year if I can get it going again!"Your life is what your thoughts make it"

Poor rose ..
.. If you gently scrape the bottom of a stem if its green its a live or if its brown its dead ..
I would personaly cut it back by half to the nearest bud joint and repot it,feed it & water it, put in a sheltered spot in the garden and see what happens..0 -
Ah.
Not quite so optimistic now but you have nothing to lose but just putting it in the ground somewhere as brogusblue said.0
