Interesting, can you tell me where you've seen them please?

I was given one in a gift set with an umbrella (Boots), and have bought/seen them in various attraction giftshops and charity shops (sometimes they're mesh sided, sometimes solid ripstop nylon).

These are probably the best-known brand - http://www.onyabags.co.uk/shop.php?crn=205 - although you can get them cheaper.

Thanks for all your interesting replies....

Think I'll try bagless and give the crates a go. Will only work for me though if the driver can carry them into the kitchen, there is no way I'll be able to lift them myself and would take forever traipsing from the front door to the kitchen.
  • I much prefer the crinkly brown paper bags that proper greengrocers have why can't supermarkets go back to them for all the fruit and veg stuff?

I think maybe Tesco make them thin on purpose so you buy their bags for life instead - anf of course it saves them a few quid which they really need! Every little helps apparently!

It's all to do with the weight and volume. It may make no difference to Joe Bloggs who picks up a few thousand bags each month from the cash and carry for his fruit shop. But to the people at Tesco it's a different story.

Tesco transport billions of these bags round the country. To them it's a case of "If we use paper bags we will have to send a truck load to each store every week. But if we use thin plastic ones we only need send one truck full every month." That save 3 truck journeys per month per store, and that's a lot of petrol and truck drivers wages.

No, the bags for life cost a lot more, to make and buy, and to transport, and they have to replace them for free. One person may buy one bag and have it replaced 10, or even 100 times in their life.

It's better for them if you use their free bags.

I've ordered both with bags & without bags - both come in large trays which you empty. With bags - some items come without bags (they quite often tell us they have run out) ...... and without bags, some items come with bags so we decided to go 'without' bags & get the green points - will have to find out what green points do :D

I always have to double bag my shopping as the new bags at Mr T are so thin and rubbish.
  • I have to say, as a Tesco worker, im acutally so embarassed about the whole bag situation.

The store that I work at, has actually ran out of bags every evening since Friday...(so you can imagine the flak us checkout chicks are getting ;-()...so we were having to offer "bags for life" or boxes...then we ran out of both those, so we were having to give people rubbish sacks.

Yes, they are extremely flimsy, and things fall straight through them ( i usually tell people to double bag too, or offer a box)
