Tesco carrier bags

Anyone else noticed how thin they are? I've just had my shopping delivered and half my shopping is over the floor, the bags just won't take the weight of some of the shopping.

Thinking about changing to delivery without bags but how does that work? (presumably that's what they want us all to do) do the drivers bring it into the kitchen then wait while you unpack everything?

Hi. I had my shopping delivered recently 'without bags'. It came in plastic trays which I just unloaded in the kitchen whilst the driver brought the rest of the stuff in. Some (mainly fridge) items still came in bags though.

I had a bag for some shopping the other day n the bag was like paper, the c/o said double bag it, whats the point in that then? Farmfoods are the best bags i come across...........

I agree - Farmfoods bags are brilliant for free. Take these to Tesco for your shopping.
Whenever I have had a home delivery I have always used the no bags option - you get green points too.

For me I wish they would charge for bags like Ireland do then maybe people would think and use the reusable ones. You cannot complain if you get something for free, if you don't like it provide your own.

Me, I can't wait for a carrier bag tax, we'll end up just like Ireland.

1000% increase in the sale of plastic bin liners
Huge increase in traffic to transport the heavier paper bags around
Huge increase in fuel consumption to transport the heavier bags
Huge increase in the number of trees cut down to provide paper bags
No change in the amount of plastic produced
No change in the amount of litter, because, despite people shouting about carrier bags covering every tree in Ireland, it just wasn't true.

And best of all, a huge increase in prices to cover the cost of the huge increase in shop lifting due to more people taking their own bags into shops.

If you're going to jump on a bandwagon, jump on one that's heading over a cliff, that's what I always say.

What a load of bull, Why do they have to provide paper bags? make people bring their own or buy a bag, so no real increase in fuel or transport then but a massive decrease in oil use as not as many bags are manufactured. What idiot would go shopping with a bin liner? BTW it is waste material that is used to make paper bags not trees. Shoplifting may be rife where you live but it is a very minor issue here along with most crime and although we don't charge for plastic bags they are not out in the open and the majority use the hessian type bags. As for litter, well that is down to how low a standard of decency people have to want to drop litter in their community, we have no litter problem here. You have the right to be a ludite just as I have the right to care about the environment and BTW it is not jumping on any bandwagon I have been designing and researching environmental systems for the last 38yrs, long before it came all the rage and it is going away from the cliff.

For impulse buys. People plan trips to supermarkets, so can take bags wit them, but often they are out, not shopping, but pass a little shop and buy things on impluse. In those situations people don't have bags with them but need bags to carry the items home.

Some shops need to put produce in some kind of bag before giving it to the customer, butchers for instance.

This has not been the case in Ireland, most people re-use a free carrier bag once they get it home, as bin liners etc. Since free carrier bags have stopped they have had to buy bin liners, so no decrease in the amount of bags manufactured and transported, just a change in the shape of the bags.

It's waste material that is used to make plastic bags too. If we don't make this waste material into plastic bags, what do we do with it?

I wasn't talking about where I live, but there is very little crime here too. However that is not the point, if there is an increase in theft from chain stores then prices in all the stores in that chain go up. So we would still end up paying more for crime that was being committed in other areas.

As I said, you did not read my post properly. Go back and read it again, you will find I said there was no change in the amount of litter, because carrier bags were not a litter problem to begin with.

Its more enviromentally friendly to use tesco bags as bin bags as they are bio-degradable and thinner than most bin liners

Aside from the issue over paper bags (which do seem to tear very easily in my experience: they'd need to make then stronger then the current highstreet paper bags and possibly coat them for when we get rain). I also think Tesco need to deal with their bag issue.

I think the reason they are so thin is so they do biodegrade as any thicker would mean they take longer to vanish and maybe may not fir certain criterea? But it does see a bit besides the point as if I ever need a carrier bag I end up having to double and sometimes triple them up. I prefer to jam everything into one bag as its easier to lug around public transport and need stronger bags. (I do bring my own most of the time but there are times I do forget or remember I needed somethings after I have left home w/out said bag)

ive had shopping delivered by tesco. they use an absurd amount of bags an example being that i had two packets of sweets in one bag, not very economical. farmfoods definetly has the best quality bags and there free
