Go to https://www.nationalrail.co.uk and instead of entering your search terms straight off the bat, click on 'Advanced Search'.

Then enter your search terms and select Avoid: London (all stations).

It's a minimum of five connections from what I can see, but all same-station platform-to-platform changes. I presume you want to avoid lengthy cross-London tube / bus transfers between stations?

Is it because you do not want to change stations in London?

You will be able to do something, but it will take you most of a day and will be a planning headache.

One option just looking at the railway map:

Bognor - Brighton to Bedford or Luton (this goes through London, but is a direct service) - Leicester - Norwich - Ipswich!

that could all be a problem. hours and hours and round the houses. but thanks to you all.

maybe get into london victoria on the train and get the coach out, but seems pointless.

What's the actual problem with crossing London?

OK this is the best I can do. Listen very carefully, I vill zay this only vonce.....

    1) Get from Bognor to London St Pancras. It's two changes at Barnham and Three Bridges.

    2) Change from St Pancras to Kings Cross. At least this avoids crossing London.

    3) Kings Cross to Cambridge

    4) Cambridge to Ipswich

Not perfect, but proberbly the best you can do under the cirumstances. If you tell me when you want to go, I'll get you a full set of times.

(I'm a former NRES operator from back when it was UK based....)
