In the same way that you know they won't go outside and throw bricks through the neighbours windows when you're not there. You could chain them up and lock them indoors or you could rely on trust, respect, discipline and education.

    because children arn't idiots ?

and any modern OS will have toubleshooting guides / software, which will either enable it itself or get the user to do it anyway.

I found a really really good one.

I logged into the router, and blocked the letter 'w'.

So basically anything that loaded with a 'w' in it was not allowed.

Bearing in mind that everything starts with www. , it was a good idea.

    :)

Would this method of blocking work if I pinged the address, got the IP Address and then use the IP Address instead of the URL?

    no

it bypasses the DNS address so you'd either have to get a content filter that can block sites accessed by IP or block the IP itself within the router (for example)

there are some routers that allow mac filtering by time i know you can do it on Dlink routers so it could just be a matter of checking your routers setttings

You could also use OpenDNS (Google it). It is free, and you can control the web access via any internet connection (I use my Iphone). also most routers allow you to set the times the internet connection will work (My Netgear certainly does, as did my previous Linksys)

All these suggestions of spending money.... On a site thats mean't for money saving!!

Very very simple solution.... Open any folder, go to "tools", folder options, view and deselect "hide file extensions", hit OK/apply

Now open a folder and create two new text files.

Open the first text file and type "IPCONFIG /release"
Save the file and rename it as DC.bat

Open the second text file and type "IPCONFIG /renew"
Save the file and rename it as RC.bat

Now drop the first file into your start menu folder called "Startup", hide the second file somewhere you can find it.

When your computer starts the first file will run and disable the network adaptor (and therefore internet).

The second file will reconnect you.

The kids unless they're PC guru's and know MS DOS, won't have a clue how to solve this.

Sorted and all for free, without paying a penny for expensive and invasive software that does exactly the same thing.
