in Credit cards
Hello,
I wondered if anyone had any experience of this specific thing which might save me applying YET again to look at my credit file.
I applied online for the GE Money card on 6th August (a Sunday). I got an automated email thanking me for my application, and saying I'd get a decision on the next business day. You won't be amazed to learn that I still haven't heard anything further from them over 2 weeks later.
I've read a few other people on this forum having a similar experience. However, the fact that GE can't be bothered to run their systems properly puts me off their card and I don't want to chase them or apply again over the phone. I'll just move on. My question is, though, would they have got to the stage of doing a credit search? Or are they likely to have stalled even before then?
I guess I'm asking whether anyone's been in the same position as me and then checked their credit file afterwards, and has found either a credit search from them or a lack of one. If anyone can help, it will save me £2, a stamp, and hassle at a time when I don't need it!
Many thanks, wonderful forum folk.

PS I applied online last Thursday for a Barclays low life-of-balance card but have also heard nothing - not even an email confirmation of my application. Is it me?! I didn't even use the same computer for both, so I don't think it's a technical issue!

Everything turns out all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end.

I applied for a ge card and got knocked back despite having an impeccable credit rating so i wouldnt worry about it. Seems like a lot of others have had bad experiences applying with them. Seem very hit and miss.Waddle you do eh?0

I applied for the credit card today at 3pm and have just got an email confirming my application was successful!!! I have transferred over my £3500 balance from my MBNA card and it's now interest-free for 12 months, saving around £50 per month in interest!! Good luck with your application though.Only when the last tree has died

I don't know whether they wouldn have done a credit check or not, but usually one credit check is not a big deal so I don't think there is any need to be overly concerned unless you are doing tons of stoozing or something.
If you really need to know then get onto one of the free trials or just pay the £2.0 -
Pablo,
Did you get charged 2.5% on the £3,500 to transfer it?
Thanks,

I applied online for a GE card and got a acceptance email less than an hour later.
I requested a balance transfer of £5k
About 10 days later my card came through with a £3k limit.
I was a bit miffed and was going to grin and bear it.
I then got a statement in showing the full £5k had been transferred and a BT limit of £5100.
All in all i'm a bit puzzled, but pleased that it appears everything has gone through ok,given everyone's else problems.
No mention of fee yet!!0 -
Well, I've written off the GE application now, having waited this long. I'm not going to bother to chase them as I haven't got time to hang around so I sorted out other things for myself instead.
I did hear from Barclays though: never had an "acceptance" letter or email but they just sent through the actual card and paperwork within a week! Good LOB rate but not a great credit limit (£2550; I was hoping for about £5,000). I rang before activating the card, to see if they could increase the limit, but nothing doing. He said sometimes they will do it after 6 months or so, but as I pointed out, that's not so much use to me since I have to transfer any balance within the first 2 months to get that rate. Oh well - I'll use it anyway, I think.
Thanks for your input.

GE money sent me an email confirmation within an hour and then sent me a card (and the pin on the same day) - complete with an 8 grand limit! (i might add im 23 and my credit rating probably doesn't even exist). im not one for getting into debt, and only wanted it for the 3% on petrol and supermarket purchases, which is way better than the morgan stanley 1% i was already on. anyway the benefit with the morgan stanley is being able to access your account online, which you can't do with GE money. shame that, because it's not so easy to pay your bills and keep on track of your spends per month. a ploy by them to make me spend more, perhaps!"Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement" (RHCP)0
