I have found a share certificate after a clearout and wondered how to go about selling, as it is sears and i cannot find any listings for sears or the exchange registrars that are listed on the back.

  • You could write to the registrars at the address on the certificate to ask for confirmation of what happened to your shareholding. Even if the registrar isn't in business by the same name I'd imagine the letter would get to them. Alternatively if your bank has a share dealing service you could ask one of their advisors.

I wouldn't get your hopes up about how much it's worth. As the company is no longer listed on the stock exchange it's either gone bust or been taken over. If it's gone bust then the shares wouldn't be worth anything, and if it was taken over you would probably have received a cheque for the value of the shares then. However there's always a chance that they have some value!

    Hi,

Could it be the store that used to be called Sears Roebuck, an American company which still exists? The Sears shareprice is $50.

Can you post the names of the registrars?

Its more likely to be Sears group plc which was delisted in Jan 1999 after been taken over by January Investments. As previously suggested write to the registrars address on your certificate
