Reupholstering a sofa

I want to reupholster my (vile) sofa.

The cushions are a very simple shape with relatively square corners and sponge foam inside (it's ancient!), so I figured the sewing part can't be that hard.

My problem is the material. I just want something black, but am clueless. (and preferably a bargain).

Would a poly-cotton be ok? It gives a weight of 100gsm. Would this be thick/strong enough for people sitting on it?

Any suggestions are most welcome!

Thanks!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

100 to 400 gsm is the normal range of furniture fabrics.
so you are at the very bottom of the scale. generally the more weight the better.
canvas/duck type fabrics are hardwearing and cheap ish.
    Get some gorm.
