Possible claims

Hello everybody, I am posting on behalf on my husband about whether he could claim DLA and anything else.
Situation age 58, long term illness, a rare one, sarcoidosis. He has had it since 1994 and he is getting worse. He got made redundant in 2007 from local government and has a small pension. Current problems include breathing problems, cant walk very far, chronic fatigue, suspected heart problems, kidney problems. Has not claimed JSA or anything since he was made redundant, I work as a self employed person part time (anything more out of question because of his illness). Not elibible for any means tested benefit because of my earnings and savings.
As things are getting much worse, we are considered DLA and possibly incapacity benefit, how do you go about claiming these benefits? Is he likely to succeed. (his GP and Consultants would support him).
Any advice really welcome.
Thank you very much.

He can claim DLA if he has care and /or mobility needs which have lasted for 3 months and are expected to last for another 6.
Incapacity benefit doesn't exist any more - he'll have to claim for employment support allowance. (ESA) THis is either based on national insurance contributions or your income and savings.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

If he hasnt paid NI since 2007 he wont be eligable for contribuions based ESA and since you work your income will be taken into account for incomr based, so will his pension.0
