Just looking through my files and I seem to have a lot of duplicated music, video, and other assorted files.

Is there as 'free' program I can use to locate all the duplicate files on my PC so I can delete those that are not needed.

Use very carefully, and definitely not on any system files.

Don't check too many folders at one time, e.g work through your picture folders, then your music folders, run the wizard to help you the first time.

Make sure you use the option to SAVE deleted files, then after you have double (triple) checked, you can safely delete them.
    Move along, nothing to see.
  • This is on a bit of a tangent, but there is also a freely available program called JDiskReport for Windows which you may also be interested in.

It can scan an entire hard drive and tell you what areas are taking up the space in a nice pie chart representation. You might be able to get a quicker win if you discover there is something lurking and forgotten about that you can safely get rid of or compress, which might just save you from having to shell out for additional space.

Its been very useful to me because I work with files which sometimes exceed gigabytes of hard disk space, and being able to quickly find those kind of files and delete them to keep the disk space down is a very useful thing. Its also appreciated by my boss since it means Im not asking him for a bigger hard disk on my machine, or spending a long time cleaning up whatever junk I happen to come across on my hard drive!
