I have just started a new job this week and have signed off, But i have just realised that i have wont get any pay for 6 weeks:eek:
Is there any help available for me and my partner, She was a student until a few weeks. She has just deferred her uni course for year as she's 6 months pregnant:j We have been told that she cant claim jobseekers maybe income support when the baby arrives but until then how can we feed ourselves and pay the rent?
I didn't think this through before accepting the job!

Why cant she claim jobseekers, she is not at the point where legally she has to give up work. (that would only be 1 week before the EWC, if my memory serves me correctly) Just register her as looking for work.0

She has tried to claim jobseekers but they said as she was a student last year!?0 -
Yeah she wouldnt qualify for contributions based as she was a student. And wouldnt qualify for income based as you are working.
How long were you on jsa for? Did you qualify for the grant if you were on it for a certain length of time?0 -
I wont be entitled to working tax credits until the baby is born unless it all gets changed before then!!
You don't have to have children to get Working Tax Credits you just need to be working.
You need to have a child to claim Child Tax Credits.
I think you can also get a 'back to work' grant to help for a bit.
If you're paid monthly in your job you'll be paid in 4.5 weeks as most of us get paid tomorrow.
Best thing is to go to the Job Centre and ask if they can help you out.0
