I've got a credit card with mbna which is the play.com one it's comin to an end of my 0% soon. I've paid the balance off in full well its temperally in credit awaiting my petrol and pet insurance to go on which will be cleared straight off.

my question is do they have a dept to review interest rates as I've got a credit card with Halifax with a nice rate of 9.9% as it was my first card and got good history does anyone know if mbna will reduce my apr to match that as I use 0% but I like low rates when they end if I'm gonna use the card and only pay the min payment.

Anyone know the number and if they can reduce the rates

I'll tell you the MBNA retention freephone number if you can edit that to add some punctuation.

Not even sure if that's what you're asking for - I ran out of breath trying to read it out loud.

Cheers I'll give them a call tomorrow. I've edited it now didn realise it was so long
  • I work in that particular department of that particular card company, and I can tell you that it's sort of unlikely that we'd match 9.9%. You might get some half-decent promos thrown at you, though.

It's worth a try, though. Mention the rates being a bit high and slip the word "close" in a few times. Don't push it though, if we say rate changes aren't available, we usually mean it (and we usually can't go below a certain amount anyway).

Your best bet is to cut the card up and get a new one from absolutely anyone except MBNA. They will lull you into a deal, and then one day when your payment turns up 2 days late, they will default your account, steal your arrangement fee, stick you on 20% - preferably over a bank holiday when you have no way of crediting the account, and then laugh in your face when you suggest they have been unreasonable. It happened to me - a long standing customer - they don't care - they just want to steal your money - go with a reputable bank, not one that hides behind reputable brands like virgin because their own brand is so universally despised. Trust me - do your self a favour - leave now

I've got a direct debit for the minimum payment and the account it's being taken from always has money. I've got a direct debit on my 2 credit cards I swear by it as it's not worth having a mark on ur credit file for 6 years. I've came close to having a missed payment once put the payment online and then thought f**k not gonna clear so branch it was put the min payment on before 4 and it was fine. Since then direct debit all the way

well only problem is most cards I want I can't get as I can't reach the minimum income required being youngish well I feel I'm young as early 20's

Calling people unreasonable wouldn't have helped your case. Ask for help, don't demand obedience. I work in MNBA's retention department, and we would put you back on a promotion pretty much automatically. And, for your information, you defaulted the account by being two days late. As a long-standing customer, you should know that. You should also know that there are about six different ways to pay.

Remember, the person you are speaking to is a person. Be polite, be grateful, be patient. Treat us as you would like to be treated. If in doubt, ask to speak to customer loyalty - our jobs depend on us charming people and most people in our department will give you a good deal over losing you as a customer (because it bumps our stats up, for one thing).

Sorry, I know that that it's what you want to read, but it's the case.

I've always found MBNA to be pretty good to deal with. I've had their Sony Card for a few years and their American Express AAdvantage for a few months. They're certainly better than others I could mention such as Citibank, Capital One or Barclaycard.

Having said all that, I'm sure you could find someone to say good or bad things about all the card companies. Best just set up a D/D like the previous poster suggested and sleep easy.....

Nothing personal - I'm sure you are a decent human being - unfortunately your company isn't a decent company. My 2 day late payment (you changed the date but yes I know it was my fault) resulted in me losing my promotional rate, plus the £300 arrangement fee 2 months in, plus £250 interest which accrued between you telling me and me clearing the account - I only noticed it had defaulted because I checked on-line.. Plus it was over a christmas break, making it even harder to credit the account

Your company is well aware the the 0% promotional default scam makes them losts of money. As soon as the credit crunch hit, they applied it with a vengence to improve the balance sheet. OK, I fell for it - I'm just trying to warn others not to be suckered in - What makes me laugh is that I asked for my accounts to be closed on your online service - you wouldn't do that - so I asked for the credit limit to be reduced from £15000 to £100 - you wouldn't do that either - so I have both accounts still running - neither will ever be used again, and I still get bombarded with promotional offers!

I was a customer for 15 years - personal loans -the lot - never missed a payment. MBNA is a sharp operator - one step up from the "one easy payment to refinance you" mob. Look back at all of the MBNA threads. I'm not the only one who got ripped off - I can't believe that all those other people said nasty things to the customer service reps - I certainly didn't - but yes, I was understandably annoyed at the time

    What an unnecessary rant.

The 0% deals are paid for by the people that breach their contracts and lose them. People go into these deals with their eyes open, and should set up a DD unless they check every statement with a fine tooth comb.
