Working Tax Credits?
dll
Hi,
Hopefully someone here can help me out.
I'm a student. Husband is working. In the last tax year, he was employed from Apr - Jul, and then only from Nov - Apr. During the time without employment he wasn't eligible for JSA or any benefits as we had money in savings and he hadn't paid NI for 2 yrs. Total income for the year was around £14k.
He's currently employed, and hopefully the anticipated earnings for the year will be greater than £20k.
Are we eligible for any working tax credits and if so how does the process work.
Thanks so much

Cut off is just under 18k so no you won't qualify0

But is there a way to claim anything back for last year. Although at each individual moment he was working he wouldn't have qualified, over the whole year, he earnt below the threshold?
Feeling v hard done by - I am accummulating debt due to student loan. He is working v hard and b/c we have a bit of money in savings from wedding we weren't entitled to anything at all when he is was out of work - argh!0 -
should be entitled to claim for this yr. the cut off is around £18k but tax credits are always based on previous yrs income, so the tax credits award for current yr would be based on 09-10 income of £14k. you would then tell them you have higher estimated earnings this current yr and your award will automatically stop at end of tax yr.
aslong as your only taxable income was 14k last yr you should be able to claim.0
