my dad didn't get the option to move out, they started the work that morning with the understanding he would continue to live there, this proved to be impossible, as i said, he's from "the old school" and only warms the room he's in and therefor uses little energy, i do try to get him to use it, and he can afford too!
but the contractors milked it, we've decided to accept defeat and accept their offer, but the slightest fault with anything and we'll be on their back, havn't told them about the aerial yet, thats the 1st dig back at the cowboys that did the work.
the house is a awful mess and bar the heating system, not been worth the hassle.
£150 payment to redecorate an entire house they wrecked?

[To woody01] You deserved to have your posts deleted because your views are despicable. Not everyone on benefits or who lives in a council house is a scrounger you know. You mentioned how much tax you pay and how much you pay for council tax....now imagine losing your well paid job and your home through no fault of your own, what would YOU do?
No, he does not deserve to have his posts deleted. He deserves to have his posts shot down by good arguments from those who disagree with him.

Were not chavs, work really hard, pay over 3500 a year just in car insurance.

Not getting much from comparrison sites then, but that is another subject. I pointed that Woody posts, which he himself noted, had been removed.

When I did my house up, we had to live in it while doing so, and I did most of the work and paid for it as well.

    Some just need wet nurses.

Sounds to me like the £150 is a standard payment for redecoration after such works. The excessive heating bill and aerial would need to be addressed separately.

Because i insinuated that these people want something for nothing and the rest of us pay, my post was deleted.

Nevermind.......pity those that take the handouts don't like it when someone points it out.
No they are paying rent so its not something for nothing your just being Pathetic

I am guessing some people on this site are just a little bitter that some people get reduced rent properties whilst others have to pay top dollar. Bitterness is very ugly.

You pay rent, you deserve to live in a house that is up to standard. Thats what the rent is supposed to cover! Its pretty standard that council houses are being upgraded like this at the moment, its called the decent homes standard.

I have owned my own home, but now live in a housing association house. When I lived in my own home, I paid for repairs and maintenance because, at the end of the day, when I sold the house I benefitted from keeping it in a good state of repair financially. When you rent, you get nothing back when you leave. Its hardly rocket science.

Have u read the OP? This gentleman has disabilities and couldn't live through this upheaval!

I think we'll all been in the position of having a little upheaval in our lives, but if this gentleman is disabled and couldn't manage it, then well done to the OP for helping out.

I hope to god that some of the posters on this forum don't find themselves in financial difficulty and need social housing. Or worse, find themselves in the position that this gentleman was in.

Some of you have shown absolutely no compassion for a disabled gentleman looking for a bit of advice.

My house is council but i have paid for a conservatry - CASH, .
If i was you i would buy the house. When the tenancy comes to an end somebody couldl be hit with a big bill for the removal of the conservatry.
  • op, your first point of call should be the council.

the best thing to do is make sure your dad has copies of his previous bills (2 or 3 should be fine) along with the most recent high bill, then go to the council and enquire about a ''claim for compensation'' they can then look at the previous bills and work out how much extra the contractors used. It is the council's responsibility to sort it out, they organise the works and employ their subcontractors to do the work if you know what i mean. you should also mention to the council about the aerial etc.

i work in social housing and i can kind of see where woody is coming from, yes there are plenty of people who want something for nothing, but what Woody fails to see is that there are also plenty of decent hardworking people who live in council / social houses!
