Student Software

Options
Does anyone know if Windows 7 and Microsoft Office purchased through the students discount schemes can be installed as a clean install or do you already have to have an existing version on your pc? (don't know much about the workings of these things so any information would be appreciated)

Not sure if they are full versions like the ones you can buy in PC World, etc.

Thanks aldrich43. Just actually be looking on the internet for information and I've been reading different things about student software on the internet, it's all very confusing. Some people say it can be upgraded and others say it can't, any idea.

I was going to purchase both from PC World but if student versions do identical things to retail full versions then opting for student versions would be much cheaper.

you may have to do the double install method if it doesn't like the clean install of win7.

I bought the Student version of Win 7 Upgrade, this needs a working version of Windows already on the system to work, but can then clean install. It didn't work straight onto a blank formatted disk, I had to install a copy of Windows XP (literally just installed it and got to the desktop) then installed Win 7 and let it wipe the disk and it went on fine.

Full info here if you need to refer to it

Student windows 7 can do a clean install as long as it can detect a previous version of windows before it starts the install. If you don't have a previous version of windows installed on the machine, install xp first or run through the windows 7 install with no CD key to install a trial. Then run the windows 7 install again with CD key to install the full version.

No difference in the licence, when i bought one when windows 7 came out you could either choose from premium or professional. It is exactly the same as an upgrade that you would buy in the shops with all the same features.
