Forcing Card Closure - Help!!!

Options
I settled 2 credit cards last October and requested that the cards be closed. I have since then been trying to close both cards without sucess and still receive statements and credit card cheques for the accounts.

I have verified that my requests have been unanswered by obtaining my credit file which shows the accounts as still open.

Does anyone have a letter template or something I can send the credit card companies' to force them to close the accounts and update my credit file accordingly?

Many Thanks.

Either call them and demand it be done, they should send a letter out to you to confirm the closure, or write to them and send it recorded delivery, so that you know they have received it, just clearly stating that you have cut up your cards as you no longer want the account, making sure that you sign the bottom of the letter

    Thanks for the reply.

Been calling them every month for the best part of a year. Every time they say they have closed the card and will send a confirmation letter. Never happens!!

Will write to them, just wondered if there was a standard closure letter thats all.

Just out of curiosity, which company is it?
I'm thinking of applying for a nationwide card, purely because they don't charge the foreign conversion fee, but service like that would seriously put me off

I'd also be interested to hear who the companies are since Lloyds TSB and Capital One kept me hanging on for 6 months.

I had a problem with my Virgin card - it was a few pence in credit due to overpaying slightly. I asked them to close the account and they said they had... but months later it turned out they hadn't as it was in credit. Took a further month for them to refund the 3p and close it!

They don't normally send statements unless there is something to show.

I've recently closed (and had confirmation of closure) from Lloyds CC - only had to ask them the once.

Actually having the same problem with 2 companies, MBNA & Halifax.
  • Mint did the same with me. Closed it, they said that I wouldn't be able to access online banking after the call ended and wouldn't receive any further letters etc. (I asked this as I was about to move so didn't bother to update with new address). Months later and it was still open, and sending statements to an old, rented address.

So I didn't both with calling, just wrote a strongly worded letter complaining, and they wrote back saying it would be closed. I'd put something in asking them to update it with the credit reference agencies asap so it doesn't adversely affect your future ability to gain credit. I did, and they addressed that specifically saying they would in the return letter. Just about to order my credit file again to check!

Edit: Strangely, Capital One seemed to update within a couple of months, closed Cap1 and Mint on same day and they had closed it on the last credit report I got.
