Young persons railcard on osyter?

Options
Hi
I've just bought a young persons rail card, and I've read that you can load it onto an oyster card to receive the discount on the daily cap, but I've read on this site that you can't put it on the oyster I use (the student one for free bus travel).

Would it be cheaper for me going into London (only using the train, not the tube) to apply the discount onto an Oyster card, and if so would I have to buy a new oyster card (do you have to pay for new ones?) Or would I just be better off buying all-day-travelcards at the discounted rate as I have been at the moment.

Cheers

The oyster card/railcard discount does make it cheaper than buying travelcards.

Get an ordinary oyster card (issued free - you still have to pay the £3 refundable deposit though) and use it instead of a travelcard. If you don't hit the lower cap for discounted oyster/railcard, then you saved paying for a travelcard but not getting your "moneysworth".
