Car Hire Damage - Small Claims Court
Comments

Rule No. 1 with hire cars. Always, always, always, get someone to check for damage when you return it and have them sign to confirm it when you return.
Rule No. 2 See rule No. 1!
It's a well known scam for hire car companies to get the excess out of you.. PS. I'm not saying this was the case here, but some companies do try it on.
PS. Is not an unreasonable charge depending on the damage. The panel may well have had to have been replaced. What you might consider an acceptable repair on your own car will not be to the hire car company. Remember these cars are destined to be sold on soon after.0 -

1. T-cut is crap
2. no product can fix grazes down to primer.
I believe the quote if im honest, its a little high but believable for a good job as it would require a bumper respray and blending.
However i also agree the OP shouldnt be liable under the circumstances.
Bumper Scuff Repair
Halfords bodyshop experts can find an exact colour match for invisible bumper repairs. Cracked or dented bumpers can also be repaired. Prices start from just £65 and repairs are guaranteed for 3 years! Pre-booking maybe required so please contact your local Halfords store. Repairs are subjust to vehicle inspection0 -

Can halfords and experts be used in the same sentence? theyre the pc world of motor factors, without the cheap prices!
Theyre bumper repairs are sub standard and are by no means invisible, and as for their paint mixing, its usually quite poor as some places take little cars in mixing the correct quantities of pigment.
Nothing short of a professional body shop can properly repair scratches to a standard as good as factory which is what the hire car company will want.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Im not bothered if you think they are a good standard it shows you can get it repaired well under the £500 excess the OP is being asked to fork out.
The car hire company probably wont get it repaired as they need it on the road earning money, if you ask to see the car it will still have the scuffs, it may get repaired before it goes to auction0 -

Yes but if its not to a good enough standard then its not relevant is it, i could do it for em for a tenner, doesnt mean they shouldnt still route a professional job does it....Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
You don't seem to get the point, a smart repair will be around £100 i picked Halfords as an random example , my friend has his bumper repaired with a smart repair, he had scraped it with a concrete bollard the cost was £95 IIRC, so like i say it can be repaired well under £500 with a good standard of work0

That sort of scratch near the hardlight can be caused by the metal nozzles of the high-pressure washers car valeters use - they get them to close to the bodywork, and they drag it across the surface of the paint."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Hi ,
Just a thought the credit card company refunded my money, so should the car hire company be suing them not me? Just a thought.

Think again..."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
