Foundation Year at Uni

Options
Hi there

I am applying to my local uni to do my Foundation year this year then go on to do my degree starting next year.

I have also got a part time job one day a week and one shift at the weekend.

Is it realistic to want to keep the job ? The Access/Foundation department I spoke to said I can expect to be actually at Uni for no more than 3 full days and I can choose which lectures to attend (as long as they are the relevant ones obviously) and I wont be there in the school hols

Many thanks

Without wanting to be nosy, what is your educational background, what will you be studying and what is your family situation?

I havent really done any further education since I left school, except resit my Maths qualification. Hence the Foundation year (year zero)

My husband was barely in one day a week in uni when not on placements, I dont do a placement on my course unless I specify I want to.
  • youd be very unlucky not to be able to fit a one day per week job in? especially if you can pick your modules to a large degree (as they will be on different days, hence able to work around them).
also, might be worth seeing if if things go well you can change to the degree - hence saving yourself a year. someone in my class has done that - the first year was no different on foundation than on the degree, and he did well, so changed it to degree. HR might be a totally different kettle of fish though.
  • Seems reasonable to keep the job. If it happened to be in HR, that might even be more helpful, as they may be even more keen to keep you, or even shift your job or your times to one which fits in better with your tutorials or lectures.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
