Help with rent question

I hope I am in the right place apologies if I am not.
My Oh has been on the sick leave from work now for 3 weeks, [he injured his knee quite badly in work] and the doctor today signed him off for a further 4 weeks [to start with he said] and has put him forward for an mri scan. He has contracual sick pay and gets 3/4 of his pay for the first 6 months.
How long do we have to wait before/if we can claim any help with our rent? My OH is the only wage earner in the hosuehold as I look after our disabled son and claim carers allowance. The rent is £70 week and council tax is £20 week and he only gets £150 sick pay. That isnt leaving us much for other bills.
