black colour blocking my information tabs

help!!!
for the last couple of days when i have opened internet explorer 8 all my favourite tabs are blacked out i can see the symbols but the writing is blocked out in black.
It doesn,t happen on my laptop so am assuming there is something wrong with my settings not that i have changed anything.
can anybody help me
