Afternoon all.
Trying to resolve an issue here and not having much luck.
I have a web page here that when you hover over certain parts it pops up a tooltip giving further information. On IE (6, 7 & 8) the tooltip gets cut off after a certain number of characters. Works fine in Chrome & Firefox though, so I guess IE deals with the code differently.. but no idea how or why.
They are using the 'title' attribute (not alt) which is the right way to do this according to what I've read.
If there anything I need to look out for do you know?
Cheers

How many characters are you using for your tooltips? I believe <title> tags can be useful for search engine optimisation. <alt> tags are used more for images to show alternative text when the cannot be displayed.Useful is beautiful0

It varies, some are only a few characters in length and others are several lines - the longest on this page is 2300 (which again, is fine in Chrome/FF), they seem to cut off randomly between 400 & 500 characters though.0

I know why. It's Microsoft who are known for not obeying standards and trying to push their "standards" instead. They are using the 'title' attribute (not alt) which is the right way to do this according to what I've read.

I don't really understand your question. Is this your website and do you want to fix the HTML code? Or are you just visiting this website and want to fix IE's behaviour?
If it's the first, do you have a link to the website? If it's the second, then you already gave the answer, use another browser.0 -

tags != attributes
He's talking about the title attribute.0 -
It's a work thing
Intranet web page and can't post the source. A team here has coded it and somehow it's now with me to investigate it, brilliant.
Our users are unfortunately stuck on IE6 but I've been testing the page on several browsers, not an option for them though.0 -
Many apologies Tronator, a mere slip of the fingers on my keyboard!Useful is beautiful0 -
have you tried using the text wrap attribute?0

I've not.. I'll investigate.
Just noticed this site does it too on IE.0
