Laptop died

Anyone help with a laptop problem? When it is switched on, it appears to power up, lights come on, but screen stays blank. Shortly after it turns itself off, and then turns itself on again, and repeats until the power button is held down and it is switched off.

Cannot get anything to boot at all.

I take it no beeps are occuring? Remove the battery, and hard drive (if possible), remove and reseat the memory (make sure batt is removed first, and no power lead is inserted before opening laptop up). If it has more than one stick, remove all except one. Try and boot again. If not, swap memory stick over again, if still nothing then it might be something a little more serious (and expensive)

No, no beeps. Have taken main battery and CMOS battery out but no change. Will try your other suggestions. Thanks!
