Thought that I'd update this thread since I have mode some progress with the diy project. The room has been cleared and the carpet has been pulled up. Around the edges of the room under the skirting boards there is some loose flooring, which doesn't appear to be damp. The area that has sunk down is roughly the middle of the floor across the length of the room. Inspecting the middle area under the skirting board the floor appears to have sunk around 3 inches. Best of all the previous owners filled the gaps between the floor and skirting board with foam filler! and plaster and then painted it white and laid a carpet, covering/hiding that the floor has sunk in. The floor itself appears to be ok with no dampness or major cracks. My parents have owned the house for over 5 years and the previous owners owned the house for 2 years and I think that the floor probably sank down either with the previous owners or maybe before them, it also possible that the floor sank gradually over the years.0
