clutton don't councils provide 'paper bonds' as deposits for LHA tenants- i'm not sure how these work though

How about the local credit union for the bond? I know they can be quite helpful with loans in situations like this and may be able to lend her the money at an affordable and very low interest rate?

Where is she staying at the moment? If she has to leave there then will she qualify as homeless as she will not be able to live there past x date? I know we qualified as homeless a few years ago as our landlord lost the house and we had to leave within 8 weeks but we hadnt found a new place to go to. Technically we were living somewhere but because we had to be out we were 'homeless'

    Maybe worth a try?

When I was left as a homeless single parent, I qualified for a Community Care Grant. Which came in very handy when it came to furnishing my home. Basically you list everything that's needed and they tell u what u can and can't have.

Echo what other posters say about Freecycle, salvation army etc.

And echo what they have said that it's wonderful of you to help her in this way

""This thread has brought a lump to my throat""

    mine too.. !

I often post on the property - selling - renting board to give advice to tenants who are at the mercy of poor landlords (there are a small band of good LLs who do this) and yet "all" landlords sometimes get abuse there - so its really lovely to be appreciated here..

The benefits system and LHA is so complex - and so it is not surprising that many dont understand what they are entitled to... and you only need one "jobs-wurf" to make a benefit applicant feel unwelcome....

    pls dont tell .....:)

My local council does provide a Bond but not for folks in her position.. - she is not homeless ... and is not willing to "milk" the system to get what she is not entitled to... that's one reason i think she will be a good tenant - she is very honest.

Any chance she could get back with her ex? that may effect her LHA entitlement.
