What wires do i need for optimum viewing??

Options
I am not so switched on when it comes to things like this!!

I have a Panasonic 37" plasma tv, we are getting sky+ HD. What wires do i need to make my viewing worth the extra subscription i'm gonna pay?
And does the type of metal which connection is made out of make a difference?

I also have a wii attached and a dvd player, can anyone suggest cables for these too??

HDMI cable. It's digital, a £3 cable is as good as a £30 one, though I assume one will come with the Sky box. Well I guess it's possible you have one of the early plasma's without HDMI in which case use component.

DVD and Wii, unlikely to have HDMI connector so use Component, second choice SCART.

It may be worth checking the TV's manual as they sometimes have detailed instructions.
  • It is a more recent model and i'm sure it has HDMI sockets.

Thanks, is its really that simple to make the most of hd tv?

No. Don't bother going for gold-plated gimmicks.

HDMI for the DVD player if it has an HDMI connection and the Panasonic has two HDMI inputs.
For the Wii you should get a component (not composite) video cable - you can pick them up for £2.50 from Amazon.

Alienrik often links to a specific £5 HDMI cable thats supposed to be 'much better than average' go search a few of his posts... don;t spend any more than that per cable tho as you'll be wasting your money

    No !

The most common "fault" with HD TV is that people sit too far away:

Only problem with guides like that (And id trust that site to have some of the best guides you can get), is that SD material will always suffer if the 1080P settings are followed

    +1...................
  • Thank you for all replys!!

As far as distance from tv to seating, we don't live in a large house, max distance away from tv is 6 - 8 foot. So we should be ok! We do have a problem with viewing angle on another tv in our bedroom, but will be getting a bracket to rectify this issue.

And thanks for link to the cable, always great to have so much help on this forum!!!

And finally for sound.....would eventually like some sort of surround sound system, but don't wont all the wires that go with it. Have tried looking into getting wireless system, but the pennis wont allow at present.
