Advice needed please - Online Company

Hi, I made an online purchase of a fitness machine from a website via credit card. Upon giving payment, I received a confirmation e-mail saying that the item had been ordered and would be dispatched, but soemthing didnt quite seem right. The e-mail stated that the product was coming from abroad, which hadn't been mentioned at all on the site.
I thought I would leave it a few days so I did and received another e-mail saying that they had ran out of stock, but would be getting some soon and my name would be put on a list.
I checked the net a read reviews and the site is a total scam, some people had to wait 6 months to get one and when they did it was a fake, not one person has anythign good about the site and they all say the site will not respond to any communication.
What course of action should I take? It has been about a week since making the payment. Can i request the credit card company to stop the payment or not. I tried contacting them today, but the customer service line said I would need to contact another dept which wasnt open.
