Tax credit overpayments (repaying)

Hello
I have a bit of a strange question, not sure if anyone can answer it or not. When I was still with my ex husband, we had tax credits overpayments of about £5000 that we had to pay back. After he left, I started paying it back at £51 a month. I recently rang and asked them how much there was left to pay, as I'd been paying it a while and they said there was £3000 (I think) left in total and I have to pay £770 back. I was just wondering, when I have paid all of my half back, can they then chase me for his half too? He isn't working (through choice ) and is claiming JSA. I would try and club the £770 together if I thought they wouldn't chase me for the remainder so that would be an end to it, but I don't know how they work.
Hope this makes sense, if not tell me and I'll try to clarify!
Thanks, Sam

As I understand it, when you went from couple to single claim, your couple claim would have been shut down, and any outstanding repayment should have been sent to both of you, and you are liable for 50% each. All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -
It used to be the case you were jointly liable for it, and if one party didnt pay, the other had to. Now though, its limited at max 50% each, regardless of whether one person pays or not.0

Thanks very much for your replies. So hopefully I should just pay my £770 and that should be the end of it. I might contact them and ask them to put it in writing just for peace of mind.
Thanks again
