Credit card as protection

i always use a credit card for large purchases to give added consumer protection.

i thought I heard something on the radio once,to the effect that if you paid it straight off (which we do) you are not covered....is this true? any comments appreciated,thanks

    Not true.

    There's more detail on MSE here - it even recommends that you pay the balance straight away.

    I'm not sure, but I seem to recall having heard something about not necessarily being covered if you pre-load your credit card with cash and THEN use it to pay for things - the argument being that in those circumstances you are not actually getting credit at any stage. Perhaps that's what you are thinking of ?
