smile Overdraft renewal

Options
Just received a secure message from smile telling me that my current account overdraft is up for renewal and that from a specified date next month the overdraft will be removed and any incursion into this will be treated as unauthorised overdraft. I have to reapply for the overdraft if I want it and they will consider this request.

Hmmm. Part of me is a bit peeved that they're not just renewing it automatically and asking me whether I want it to continue, rather that I have to take some action to get it again. I'm sure it's fairly far down the list of most people in their priorities and perhaps they'd be quite happy for a few to not notice the removal and slip overdrawn now and again. Just me being a bit cynical.

Gobsmackingly, I just got my renewal notice:
We're just letting you know that your £500.00 overdraft is due to end.

We have, however, arranged for your overdraft to be automatically renewed on 03/10/2006 and run until 03/10/2007.

We're also able to offer you an overdraft limit increase. If you would like to take advantage of a higher limit, please reply to this message letting us know how much you'd like, or alternatively select 'request overdraft limit increase' from the customer services menu before your present overdraft is renewed.

For details of the terms and conditions and any charges that apply to your overdraft, please go to https://www.smile.co.uk/general/terms_and_conditions. Please note that we reserve the right to vary our charges at any time, but we will always let you know before they change.

If you do not want your overdraft to be renewed please contact us within the next 14 days.

We offer an optional overdraft protection plan provided by Norwich Union. It offers you cover for the following: accident, illness, involuntary unemployment or death. The cost is 50p per person per £100 of the overdraft limit (regardless of whether the overdraft is used). To take this cover you must be UK resident, working at least 16 hours per week, aged over 18 and under 65. For more information on the overdraft protection policy, please go to https://www.smile.co.uk/images/pdf/overdraft_protection_policy.pdf. If you would like to take our overdraft protection plan, please reply to this message.

    Thanks

    smile
