Hi all ... Fortunately it looks like I'll be in a financial position to invest in a decent sofa when I move house ... I have my eye on a cream leather sofa-bed which would be fab with the sort of colour scheme I'm planning, but am I mad? ... Cream being cream, am I condemning myself to a lifetime of professional cleaning bills or is leather fairly easy to maintain (without too many chemicals) whatever colour it is? ... It would be in daily use as a sofa and occasional use as a bed ... Flat has an open plan kitchen/lounge so I'm thinking leather will repel foody odours better than porous fabrics ... Any thoughts would be welcome!

Hi
I have a beautiful cream sofa ( corner unit) for 2 and a half years now. It is still in excellent condition BUT it is hardly used. I have another one that is used constantly and it marks VERY easily .However I just use leather cleaner. You do notice every mark in a cream osfa but again maybe the type of leather you buty would make a differance as I have alwyas gone for the softest.
It will keepbetter than a matieral cream sofa but it will really depend on the usage how dirty it will get. If in doubt I would recommended maybe a tan/ brown one for piece of mind and that stil looks smart. This is what I will be replacing my dirty cream sofa with . As I do tend to get paranod about any stains( and im not normally like that ! ).0 -
I have a cream 3 seater and 2 seater sofa and considering when we bought it I had an 11 month old and another on the way I can definately say it was worth every penny. The amount of baby sick, juice and god knows what else has gone on it and it just wipes off. I usually give it a clean once a month, having read on here not to use babywioes (which I alwasy did) have now switched to snowflakes. Have also bought a pack nourishing leather wipes from Wilkinsons (think they were £1.99 so too expensive) will probably do this once every 6 months.
And Biro - keep a can or hairspray around. Give it a few squirts and it wipes off with a clean cloth.

Hi rzl
We have a light beige leather suite we bought second hand. I would only ever have leather again as they are so easy to clean. We have children and dogs so I bought some cream fleece throws and I cover the seat pads with those and take them off when we have visitors you do have to watch jeans as the colour sometimes comes off onto the leather and someone scratched my MIL's wearing them. I will buy a darker colour next time prob a tan or chocolate as ours is very well used and it would be more practical. As it is getting older it is getting harder to clean.0 -
why shouldn't yu use baby wipes to cleam them????????0

Very nice Rzl, i have a friend who has a leather suite and she says its so easy to clean, much easier than fabric. My sister has a cream suit, and because of the children, she has put cream throws over it for extra protection, she did get some staining from her husbands jeans (cheap jeans) but it came off no problem!!! Next time i change my suite, i would go for a leather one!!!0

Personally, I wouldn't as I prefer a couch I can doss about on with now worries about my clumsiness - I tend to come over all 'Elizabeth' from Keeping up Appearances when in the presence of something that will show up stains.
I take it you don't have a dog then?0 -

... Main concern would be general wear and tear (and the occasional splash of tea/coffee/red wine):o
