Foxes invading garden

  • I'm surprised your local council does not provide robust rubbish bins, but you seem sure about that, so the next person to ask is your Landlord. I know the property is unfurnished, but this is a Health and Safety issue, and it is bad for him/her if the front of the property is strewn with garbage every day. Apart from anything else, it will encourage rats. Then you could slip on the garbage (banana skins for example) and sue him. Check your Tenancy Agreement to make sure he is not obliged to provide you with secure waste disposal.

If no joy from Council or Landlord, call the Council's Cleansing Department. As I said, this is a Health and Safety issue, and they cannot ignore it. Emphasise the rats issue. Good Luck - let us know what happens

My parents use jeyes fluid - a big squirt *inside* the bags before they tie them up and no foxes or cats come near them now. (I wouldn't put it on the outside because it isn't nice for the people that have to collect them).

Make sure all food waste is 'double bagged' that is tie it up securely in one bag & then tie that up again in a second bag - that should help as the smell will be less. Is there nowhere you can leave bags until Bin day?

  • Can you borrow a dog for a couple of days? Male dog pee is great for warding off unwanted wild animals.

We used to use our own wee to deter the foxes when we lived in the country and kept chickens. It worked, we never got troubled but neighbours lost lots of chickens to the fox. I would send Mr Frugal down the garden under the cover of darkness ! Also used the trimmings from our hair cuts sprinkled around the chicken run.

I don't know if these would work with urban foxes as they are used to human smells

Besides, I doubt you would want your own wee in your bin :rotfl:

I have also heard that a squirt of amonia in the bin bag will act as a deterrant (if you don't fancy peeing in it!)

Do you know if this would have any effect on my dog. I have a bichon and we are stalked by foxes during his evening "walkies" They follow us all around the block and even down my driveway!! My silly dog thinks they want to play with him and his straining at the leash with his tail wagging, while the foxes look at him and lick their lips!!

    Thanks
